The American Neuromuscular Foundation (ANF) congratulates Marcos V. Oliveira Marques, MD, as the recipient of the 2024 Surinderjit Singh Young Lectureship Award. Established by the ANF in honor of Dr. Surinderjit Singh, this award recognizes young professionals who demonstrate promise in the field of NM medicine. As the award winner, Dr. Oliveira Marques will speak at the AANEM Annual Meeting

Dr. Oliveira Marques specializes in neurology and NMDs in São Paulo, Brazil, and is the former coordinator of the NM service at Prevent Senior. He graduated from the University of São Paulo, Brazil and received training at the Hospital Sírio-Libanês. This award honors him for his significant contributions to advancing care for individuals with NMDs. His winning topic, “Improving Health Outcomes in NMDs With a Low Budget,” showcases his innovative approaches to enhancing patient outcomes despite financial constraints.

“We had several wonderful submissions this year, but Dr. Oliveira Marques’ proposal stood out for its alignment with the meeting theme. I am delighted that he will speak in this year’s plenary session,” said Dr. Dianna Quan, 2024 AANEM and ANF president.

In his lecture, Dr. Oliveira Marques reveals innovative strategies for improving care for NMDs within budgetary limitations. His research emphasizes the critical impact of multidisciplinary teamwork and proactive patient management in reducing hospital admissions for conditions like myasthenia gravis and ALS. He also discusses the need for diagnostic advancements to facilitate timely interventions and optimize patient care. Despite operating within constraints, he demonstrates how utilizing available resources can significantly improve clinical outcomes and cost efficiencies.

“I’m looking forward to learning how some of those lessons may translate to our own healthcare system,” says Dr. Quan.

Join Dr. Oliveira Marques for his presentation at the
annual meeting Tuesday, Oct. 15 - Friday, Oct. 18, 2024.
