Medical Student Research Award

The AANEM Medical Student Research Award encourages medical students to conduct research in neuromuscular and electrodiagnostic medicine. The award is given to medical students who are the first author and designated presenter on abstracts presented at the AANEM Annual Meeting.

Award and Eligibility Criteria

Original research must be conducted in the fields of neuromuscular diseases, physical medicine and rehabilitation, or electrodiagnostic medicine. 

To be eligible for this award, the recipient must be the first author of the research, designated abstract presenter, present at the AANEM Annual Meeting, and a Medical Student Member at time of abstract submission. (AANEM Medical Student Membership is complimentary. Please contact membership@aanem.org to request a membership application.)

Applicants will only receive one Medical Student Research Award per year if more than one abstract is submitted. 

Submission Guidelines

Submit an abstract between January 1 and March 15. To be considered for this award, during the submission process, indicate that you plan to apply for the Medical Student Research Award.

By April 1, a letter of recommendation must sent from your project director to AANEM (meeting@aanem.org). This letter of recommendation should be written by the person overseeing the work presented on the poster and indicate the extent of your participation in the project.

  • $500
  • Recognition in the annual meeting program and at the AANEM Annual Meeting
  • Abstract published in an issue of Muscle & Nerve
  • Free AANEM Annual Meeting registration
