New ANF Scholarships Make Exploring NM and EDX Medicine More Accessible Than Ever

Published June 06, 2025

Thanks to the generous support of donors, the American Neuromuscular Foundation (ANF) is thrilled to announce the launch of two new scholarships that will allow medical students and residents to explore exciting career paths in neuromuscular (NM) and electrodiagnostic (EDX) medicine. These scholarships remove financial barriers and enable recipients to attend the AANEM Annual Meeting, helping to ignite a passion for these fields in the next generation of physicians who may not have found this path otherwise.

The Resident Scholarship supports up to 25 residents currently enrolled in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), adult neurology, or child neurology training programs. This scholarship provides complimentary registration to the meeting and a $1,500 stipend to help cover travel and lodging expenses. Residents will also gain access to sessions tailored to early-career professionals, including introductions to NM/EDX medicine, practical clinical education, and networking opportunities with some of the most respected figures in the field. In addition to personal benefits, the winner’s institution will receive a one-year free Training Program Partnership, granting all residents and fellows in the program free membership and access to AANEM's educational offerings. Eligible applicants must be in their PGY-2 or PGY-3 year at the time of the AANEM Annual Meeting and in good standing within their program.

The Medical Student Scholarship offers a similar opportunity to up to 30  medical students in their first through fourth years. Selected students will receive a $1,500 travel stipend, free AANEM membership, and complimentary annual meeting registration. They can attend sessions specifically geared toward students at the meeting, covering everything from subspecialty overviews to career pathways. They’ll also network with other medical students, residents, and practicing physicians and learn about the latest developments in NM and EDX medicine.

These scholarships reflect the ANF’s continued commitment to nurturing the future of NM/EDX medicine by investing in young clinicians at pivotal moments in their training. By lowering barriers to access and providing meaningful educational experiences, the ANF aims to cultivate a skilled and inspired new generation of specialists.

Applications for the 2025 AANEM Annual Meeting opened on May 15 and will be accepted through Aug.1. For full eligibility criteria and application details, visit the ANF’s Awards & Scholarships webpage.
