Support the RACE to CURE Neuromuscular Diseases
Five AANEM members will race for a cure with ANF’s charity team in the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon on Nov. 5 to help raise awareness and funds for NM research and education. Visit ANF’s website and follow along on social media to learn more about the foundation and the five participating runners.
Runner #1 - Rebecca Dutton, MD
Dr. Dutton is a physiatrist, team physician for the University of New Mexico Lobos, program director for the PM&R residency program, and acting division chief of PM&R at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Dutton has completed around 20 marathons, including the Boston Marathon on six occasions, as well as multiple half-marathons.
Dr. Horak is a NM specialist and director of the neurophysiology fellowship at the University of Arizona, and she recently served as ANF’s president. Dr. Horak is an avid runner and has completed the Arizona, Boston, Lost Dutchman, Mesa, Revel Mt. Lemmon, and San Diego marathons, as well as the Antelope Island Buffalo Run 50k.
Dr. Howard is the medical co-director of the ALS Center of Excellence at the VA Puget Sound and an associate professor of rehabilitation medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She also volunteers on the board of the Evergreen chapter of the ALS Association, is a previous ANF Board member, and current Finance Committee member. Dr. Howard has completed three half-marathons and three marathons, including, most recently, the Marine Corps Marathon, where she ran in support of the Fisher House foundation which provides lodging to families of hospitalized Veterans.
Dr. Khalil is a chief neurology resident at the University of South Florida and member of the Young Leadership Council. Dr. Khalil has completed several 5-10k races.
Dr. Zubair is an assistant professor of clinical neurology at Yale School of Medicine. He has completed the Duluth, Minnesota, Grandma’s Marathon, as well as the New York Half Marathon, Long Island Half Marathon, and multiple 5k races.
